Jaden will have random weeks where something on TV or in a book will scare him in2 not sleeping in his own bed...it will come up out of the blue & last 4 days/weeks...the only thing i've found that helps in the least is leaving his closet light on & having him chant "i'm brave, nothing can get me, there's nothing 2 b scared of"...i know it sounds corny & he's reluctant at 1st - but i get him all psyched up - like he can conquer the world, convince him there's absolutely nothing that can hurt him & put him 2 bed repeating those words...eventually he believes it!
another thing is, sometimes when i'm at my wit's end, i let him play with his favorite toy or draw in bed...the lights stay off - but the closet light is enuff 4 him 2 see...as long as he's staying in bed & not turning the TV on, he can do whatever he wants - eventually, he falls asleep on his own
good luck girl!

Both my boys went through this. For Rocky, the issue was intrusive, obsessive thoughts that kept him awake for hours. His psychiatrist treated him with anti-anxiety medication and taught him strategies to combat the "OCD voice" that made him have irrational fears (e.g. talking back to the voice and telling it to "shut up", and reminding himself that his fears are, in fact, pretty irrational). The job the doctor gave me was 1. to remind Rocky about his strategies and 2. to stop rescuing Rocky by going to his room and staying with him until he fell back asleep. The doctor said that, in some ways, I was validating Rocky's belief that there was something to fear whenever I stayed with him; also, I was taking away an opportunity for him to cope on his own. It was hard. It worked, and I used a similar approach with Taz when he started having the same problem.
